# Week 3 - Unwrapping

" A line has two sides "

It's necessary to keep in mind that " a Line has two sides ", the mesh (" lines ") of an object makes it three-dimensional. Unwrapping or UV mapping is the process of laying a three-dimensional object flat (cutting it up into pieces to make it appear two-dimensional).

The flowers had to be re-unwrapped a few times, to ensure that there would be minimal stretching on the final flower material.

The objects or models in the scene are three-dimensional, although some modifiers made them appear " two-dimensional " in certain modes (in Blender). This factor made some of the textures not unwrap correctly or stretch.

With more complex objects like the flowers, it wasn't the modifiers that made the material stretch it was placing the seams on the wrong places that made the " wrong " UV Islands.

Before unwrapping, I had to go through every object that had modifiers on it and I had to apply or update them.. This ensured that the modifiers were doing what they were supposed to in all of the different modes. Some objects had unnecessary modifiers on them which also made the objects' materials stretch.

Final Outcome of the Week:

The unwrapping process didn't take as long as I expected, most objects had to be unwrapped in the same way which made it easier to finish faster. Adding a colour grid material helped me to locate the stretching areas on the objects. With all of the objects unwrapped, the next step is to apply materials and to unwrap the objects again if needed.
